Lors du Conseil des ministres du 19 mars 2008, le ministre des Affaires étrangères et européennes a présenté un décret supprimant le Haut conseil de la coopération internationale. Cette mesure s'inscrit dans le cadre de la révision générale des politiques publiques et répond au souci d'alléger l'organisation et le fonctionnement des instances consultatives.
