Le Conseil des gouverneurs du Fonds monétaire international (FMI) a adopté, le 28 avril 2008, la réforme portant sur la gouvernance de l'institution. 175 pays ont donc accepté que des modifications soient apportées à la structure des quotes-parts et des parts des voix attribuées pour renforcer la participation et la représentation des marchés émergents et des pays en développement, tout en réalignant les quotes-parts relatives des membres sur le poids et le rôle de chacun d'entre eux dans l'économie mondiale.
